The US Board of Education (USBOE) stands as a dedicated advocate for academic quality through accreditation. Comprising degree-granting colleges and institutions, USBOE actively recognizes and assesses institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations. As a national leader, USBOE addresses emerging issues, provides a forum for accreditation discussions, and serves as a trusted source of data on accreditation and quality assurance.
Designed for senior-level graduate students, the USBOE Fellows Program immerses participants in the intricacies of higher education accreditation. Encompassing recognition processes, policy development, nonprofit governance, communications, business, finance, and government affairs, the program equips participants for leadership roles in higher education, government, or nonprofit sectors. Fellows gain exposure to influential figures in higher education, federal government, and international partnerships.
Reflecting USBOE's commitment to the recognition process, Fellows dedicate at least 1/3 of their internship to this critical area, with flexibility for additional focus areas within USBOE operations.
Successful applicants should be at the senior level of their graduate studies, including first-year post-doctoral candidates. Enrollment in a current USBOE institutional member institution, good academic standing, and endorsement from a senior-level graduate advisor are prerequisites. Applicants must commit to virtual and on-site engagements and dedicate the necessary time for a quality experience.
Internship hours align with the Fellow's degree requirements and USBOE operations, with a proposal option for those without specific requirements. Weekly engagement averages 20-25 hours, combining virtual and on-site schedules. USBOE's office is situated at One Dupont Circle NW, Suite 510, Washington, D.C. 20036, encouraging applicants from the Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland areas.
Applicants complete and return the USBOE Fellows Program application, undergo a virtual interview with USBOE staff, and receive notifications at least one month before the Fellowship begins. While unpaid, Fellows may be eligible for a stipend to assist with expenses.
All applicants receive notification from USBOE upon receipt and final consideration of their application.
